Robert M. Young Online Writings'Princess Diana's "Constituency of the Rejected" and Psychotherapeutic Studies' 50k Like many others I was surprised by how affected I was by the death of Princess Diana. I thought about this and read the papers and watched the TV. I had been asked to give the keynote address at the launching of the distance learning programmes at the Centre for Psychotherapeutic Studies, University of Sheffield, at the end of September 1997, so I decided to use this occasion to reflect on the meaning of her death for our work. In particular, I wanted to think about the ubiquity of the vulnerability which she exemplified and to which she related in others. My aim was to suggest what might be needed to convert all that charity into real political change. |
